Belarus

Since gaining independence from the USSR in 1991, Belarus have never qualified for either the FIFA World Cup or the UEFA European Championships, however Belarussian footballer, Eduard Malofeyev, was part of the USSR squad during the 1966 FIFA World Cup and 1968 UEFA European Championships.

History

The Republic of Belarus was formed in 1991 following the break up of the USSR, with the Football Federation of Belarus (Biełaruskaja Fiederacyja Futboła) becoming members of FIFA in 1992 and UEFA in 1993.

Belarus' first official international game was a 1-1 draw at home to Ukraine in a friendly match in October 1992 and the country made its competitive during the 1996 UEFA European Championship qualifying campaign.


Wales record v Belarus

Wales' first meeting with Belarus was during the 2000 UEFA European Championship qualifying campaign and the 3-2 victory was also the last international match to be played at Cardiff's Ninian Park.

Craig Bellamy became the eighth player to be sent off for Wales during the 2-1 defeat to Belarus in Minsk in September 2000.

Gareth Bale won his 100th cap for Wales during the 5-1 World Cup Qualifying win in 2021.
