Canada qualified for their first major tournament by reaching the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.

The first international match played by Canada was against Australia in Brisbane 1924, which ended in a 3–2 win for the home side.


History

The Canadian Soccer Association (French: Association canadienne de soccer) was formed in 1912 as the Dominion of Canada Football Association. Canada were founder members of the North American Football Confederation alongside the USA, Cuba and Mexico which merged with the Confederación Centroamericana y del Caribe de Fútbolin 1961 to create Concacaf.

Canada's first official international game was a 2-3 defeat to Australia in Brisbane in 1924, however they had previously played several unofficial matches prior to this, including two non-cap international matches against Wales at the Racecourse, Wrexham in 1891.
