Wales v North Macedonia

Macedonia Football Association

North Macedonia were, alongside Hungary, Slovakia and Scotland, one of the first nations to gain qualification to a major tournament through the UEFA Nations League play-offs when they qualified for the UEFA 2020 European Championships.

History

Following the collapse of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in 1991 the Federata e Futbollit të Maqedonisë (ФФM) was formed.

Having become members of FIFA and UEFA in 1994 having already played their first international match as the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia against Slovenia in October 1993.

The first competitive match played was a 1-1 draw against reigning European Champions, Denmark, in Skopje during the Euro 1996 qualifying campaign.


Wales record v North Macedonia

Wales' first meeting with FYR Macedonia came during the qualifying campaign for the 2014 FIFA World Cup; a 2-1 defeat in the Phillip II Arena, Skopje.

Former Wales manager, John Toshack, took charge of FYR Macedonia for nine matches between 2012 and 2014 winning just one match, against Andorra.
