Wales v Ukraine

ukraine

Since gaining independence from the USSR in 1991, Ukraine qualified for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany as well as three UEFA European Championships, the first of which they co-hosted with Poland in 2012.

History

Following the collapse of the USSR in 1991, Football Federation of Ukraine was formed, becoming members of UEFA and FIFA in 1992. It was renamed the Ukrainian Association of Football in 2019.

As the designated successors of the USSR, Russia took the place of the Soviet Union in the qualifying tournament for the 1994 FIFA World Cup meaning Ukraine did not play a competitive match until a 0-2 home defeat to Lithuania in the 1996 UEFA European Championship qualifying campaign.
